Free Appropriate Public EDUCATION (FAPE)
The Marshall School District provides annual notice that it is our goal to provide full educational opportunity to all children with special education needs in the area served by the district.
Special education and related services are provided to all children who have specific disabilities:
- at public expense, under public supervision and direction, and without charge
- ages 3-21, and for the duration of a school term, any person who becomes 21 years old during that school term
- in conformity with the child’s IEP
Special education and related services are provided to children with the following handicapping conditions and any combinations thereof:
- cognitive disability
- orthopedic impairment
- visual impairment
- hearing impairment
- speech and language impairment
- specific learning disability
- emotional behavioral disability
- autism
- traumatic brain injury
- other health impairment
- significant developmental delay
The Marshall School District conducts ongoing screening for all potential special needs students who are:
- entering the district for the first time
- transfer students new to the district
- currently enrolled in the district
- below school age (birth-three population)
- ages 16-21 who are potential dropouts
- school-age children who are eligible to attend school but who are not attending school

The preceding notice has been translated and mailed to those families with Hispanic origin who utilize Spanish as their native language.
