Welcome to Marshall Middle School!
MMS is a small learning community of 7th and 8th grade students and staff. Our students are generally within the ages of 12 to 14 years old - right in the prime years of seeking independence, figuring out “who” and “what” they want to be, and working through all the changes that are happening physically, emotionally, and socially. Our middle school staff is proud to help guide 7th and 8th graders through those challenges while also engaging them in rigorous academic experiences in our classrooms. Students in the middle school will experience Math, English/Language Arts (ELA), History, Geography, Science, Spanish, Physical Education, Health, Tech Ed, Ag Science, Art, Music, Second Step, Advisory, and Academic/Career Planning. Students also have the opportunity to explore Band, Choir, and a variety of clubs and athletics.
I’m honored to serve Marshall as the Middle School Principal and Pupil Services Coordinator, and have spent my career getting prepared for this role. First, I attended middle school (and high school), in Spooner, Wisconsin. Next, I studied elementary/middle school education at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, and after teaching for several years, I completed coursework and earned my Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Cardinal Stritch University. I’ve taught middle school Science, Math, and Geography in Waunakee, Portage, and Marshall and have been a middle school administrator in Monona Grove, DeForest, and Marshall. I’m so happy to be part of the team here in Marshall because this community feels very similar to my hometown in Northwestern Wisconsin! I live in Sun Prairie with my wife, Sussanah, my two teenagers (Riley and Caden) and our two labrador retrievers, Lara and Tikka.
At Marshall Middle School, we value the partnerships between school, parents, and the community. Our goal is to provide students with an environment that both promotes learning and provides kids with plenty of opportunities for experiencing success. Throughout the year, our staff will communicate with you about progress, successes, and challenges. Please feel free to reach out to us, too! We’ll be happy to help.
Sincerely,
Paul Herrick - Middle School Principal
