Hello Marshall Community,
My name is Eugene Syvrud and I am blessed to be here. I was told that there is something special about Marshall and after two years I could not agree with that more. I am looking forward to the challenges of turning a good school into a great school. We are very fortunate in this town to have many wonderful teachers who care very deeply about the success of students. We are working hard to make our students desirable to employers and to higher education institutions. Our goal is to get them “life ready.”
I started my teaching career in Union Grove, Wisconsin where I taught 7th and 8th grade Social Studies, Math, Science, & some other courses as well during my ten years at the Middle School. I coached Softball, Basketball and Volleyball during my time at both the Middle school and High School levels. I spent 10 years in Racine as Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, Academy Principal in charge of Engineering, Manufacturing, IT and Construction pathways, and as a Directing Principal. I enjoyed my time at all of my stops but this is where I feel I belong.
During my High School years in Verona I was actively involved in many different activities, Athletics, FFA and the Music programs. I want all of our students to have the same opportunities to explore many different activities to help them create wonderful high school memories. Please encourage your child to get involved in many activities. Studies show that student involvement in clubs and activities increases the attendance rate, increases academic success and decreases behavioral problems.
My goal for every student is that their Senior year students are doing one of three things to make themselves better… 1) Take Start College Now or Early College Now classes in a field of interest or towards their college degree. 2) Take a full schedule of AP and elective classes. 3) Take part in a Youth Apprenticeship where students can get a jumpstart on their career in one of 11 different career fields. My goal is to have every student College/Career and Life Ready when they have earned their diploma.
I look forward to working with you to make this a great high school experience for your child!
With Cardinal Pride,
Eugene Syvrud
