Hello Marshall Community Members,
On August 21, 2024, the Marshall Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution for district residents to consider on November 5. The referendum question will ask district residents to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91, Wisconsin Statutes, by $1,875,000 per year beginning with the 2025-2026 school year and ending with the 2027-2028 school year on a non-recurring basis for the purposes of:
-
paying salary for staff
-
maintaining current student academic, co-curricular and student athletic programs
-
updating instructional resources and technology
Residents are reminded that the $975,000 three-year operational referendum, approved in April 2022, will expire in June 2025. The referendum supported the retention and recruitment of staff, helped maintain reasonable class sizes, provided advanced elective courses, updated curriculum, instructional resources and technology, and provided co-curricular programs.
Based on conservative financial assumptions with a successful November referendum, the district will be looking to keep the mill rate consistent through 2028. Please note that even with a successful referendum, the district will need to make annual reductions due to declining student enrollment in response to families having fewer children.
An unsuccessful referendum will force the district to potentially make significant changes and cuts to staffing, class sizes, co-curricular and student athletic programs, and more. Our mission as a district is to ensure that each student receives high-quality, equitable, inclusive instruction and services.
The district will host informational conversations to provide detailed information, financial projections, and to answer resident’s questions. The meeting dates, times, and locations will be shared through multiple methods of communication. All are welcome and encouraged to attend!
Please make plans to vote on November 5. Special thanks for your continued support of public education in Marshall.
