Community Survey - 2018
The Marshall Public Schools Board of Education learned the results of the recent community survey during a presentation by School Perceptions, LLC, the firm that conducted the survey, at the December 12 Board meeting. The survey asked the community to weigh in on renewing the District operational referendum as well as provide input on programs, services and future planning.
443 surveys were completed. Respondents strongly support the District renewing the operational referendum for $1.25 million for each of the next 3 years in order to maintain current programs and services. When asked to prioritize funding areas, should the Board need to consider reductions, respondents rated maintaining course offerings, updating instructional resources and hiring quality staff as the most important.
The survey results show that 74% of all respondents, including 59% of the general community would support the referendum that will have no impact on the current tax rate.
"The survey provides pretty clear direction on the wishes of our community," shares District Administrator Daniel Grady. "It was affirming to see the strong support for our programs and services from all segments of our community."
Regarding the overall perception of the District, respondents gave high marks to the District for their use of technology, maintaining District facilities, and providing a safe and welcoming environment. Low scores were received for meeting student's social and emotional needs, preparing students for post-graduation success and keeping the public informed. Parents also reported a desire for the District to focus efforts in reading, writing, personal finance and critical problem solving. Special thanks to Marshall Public Schools residents for completing the survey.
